The customer came to us looking for a 60hz industrial generator solution, requiring the generator to be cost-effective due to his budget limitations. We determined that the Volvo powered 250KVA diesel generator was the best solution for all his requirements, as the generator was going to be powered as and when needed, so there was no requirement for an ATS panel. The customer will be achieving power from the generator hardwired into the ABB circuit breaker.

What’s the generator being used for?Â
This Volvo powered Industrial generator is being used for re charging the vessels batteries that are docked in port. The Diesel generator is to be switched on manually each time it was needed for operation. We opted for a Deep Sea Electronics control module, with it being a little bit more user friendly compared to others on the market.Â
What challenges did we overcome?Â
The customer requested a 60hz generator, which isn’t common within the UK market (these are more common in Saudi Arabia and Central America).  So we had to re configure the engine, to make it run at 1800RPM which is the requirement for 60hz.
Because the generator was being used on a shipping port, it was important that the canopy was weather proofed. With the canopy being weather proofed it protected all the key components from the elements.Â

Why did we select that particular product?
Customer wanted a cost-effective solution, which is why we chose the Volvo TAD734GE engine.
The spec of this machine was a Volvo engine coupled with a Stamford alternator with a DSE 6120 control module, with a 4 pole ABB circuit breaker. As standard, the generator was supplied with a battery charger, water jacket heater, bunded base tank, and standard 1 year warranty.
What services did we offer?Â
Our technical team had to calculate the correct size generator for the application. Which turned out to be a 250kVA diesel generator. The generator had to have a. good step load, from, the Volvo was just over 50%, which was ideal for our clients requirements.Â
We supplied and delivered the generator to site for the client. We also did a pre delivery Inspection and load test on the generator.Â
How Long Did It Take Us To Complete The Project?:
From initial enquiry it took 4 weeks to deliver the product on a 3-week delivery scale. We had to fit the delivery into the customer’s timescale expectations, this was due to delivery limitations on-site.
